SHAPE is more than a NATO military headquarters; situated 60kms from the Belgium capital of Brussels and 23kms from the French border, it is also an international community made up of representatives from 26 of the member nations of the Alliance. It is located near the town of Mons, which is synonymous with the battles of the 1st and 2nd World Wars.
The town boasts an elegant Grand Place with cobbled streets and many bars and restaurants where you can sample the local delicacies and some of the 500 beers for which Belgium is famous.
