Movement of Passengers by Air on the Germany Air Trooping Service

A reminder that the last Germany Air Trooping Service (GATS) flight will take place on Sunday 25 March 18.

With effect from 1 Apr 18 the choice of day and routing will be expanded in order to allow more travel options. When requesting a GATS flight units will submit the preferred route of travel to Bielefeld Travel Centre. GATS will operate flights from any German to any UK destination, and return flights, on the following days:

  • Wednesdays. GE airfield of departure to any UK destination ensuring BVfM is considered at all times.
  • Saturday and Sundays. GE airfield of departure to any UK destination ensuring BVfM is considered at all times.

The following options are available for travel to and from the airport and will be coordinated to reduce the burden on units and the TSU:

  • Unit White Fleet,
  • Rail Warrant, or
  • As a last resort TSU Transport can be requested.

This process change follows a BFG review, in conjunction with Army HQ, and balances requirements against convenience of service and obtaining Best Value for Money for Defence.

Further details and key points can be found in our earlier communications, Changes to GATS.

Individuals requiring any further information regarding accessibility of the GATS service should contact their Unit Movement Clerk in the first instance.
