In 2018 we talked about a final trip for the 1st Sennelager Guide group, to Our Chalet in Adelboden, Switzerland. This is owned by WAGGGS (World Association of Girl Guides and Girl Scouts). I know about it from previous chats with other leaders who have been there.

We started to plan and fundraise then, the Guides did a sponsored Cycle in the Naafi, the distance from Paderborn to Adelboden, which they did and raised a good amount, they have also had bake sales, bingo nights and bag packing events which we’ve had help from other units in Sennelager and Paderborn. We have also had donations from 1AMR, 1 PWRR, QRH, Paderborn Station and AWS (who arranged our amazing coach).

The Our Chalet trip was a planned full programme designed by the staff and volunteers there, and included hiking, snow tubing, visits to the Woodcarvers Lodge and the International Scout Centre but also revolved around a programme called ‘Action on Body Confidence’ which all members took part in and received a certificate at the end. The Chalet itself was beautiful, with quite a walk up a steep hill to get there, but once at the top, the views were breath-taking.

I’m so proud of all of our Guides and Leaders for taking part in everything, despite some difficulty, and never giving up, they were all amazing.
